NTL and Telewest hint at date for HDTV

Ntl_telewestAfter the announcement of NTL’s merger with Telewest, Simon Duffy, current CEO of NTL has stated to investors that the new corporation plans to roll out high definition services around the end of 2006. This is a little later than Sky’s equivalent service is predicted for, but he went on to observe that cable services have a distinct advantage over sky in terms of bandwidth and are thus able to produce more HD signals than the rival.

The merger, announced earlier this week has promising implications for the UK's HDTV era as the newly formed company will finally be of a size to rival Sky and armed with technology that puts it at the forefront of broadband internet services to boot. The two companies services being integrated is probably what has put the launch of the HDTV services behind Sky's but at least their customers will have a little bit longer to save up for a fancy new HD Ready TV I guess.
