Sky responds to the BBC's HDTV news
Here's Sky's response to the BBC announcement made earlier today that it is to launch HD via cable and satellite next year. Don't build your hopes up. Mr Freudenstein isn't giving much away.
We bet there were a few Champagne corks popping round Sky's Isleworth HQ though for BBC One is a very neat addition to the line up of HDTV satellite channels.
Commenting on the BBC's plans to launch trial broadcasts of high-definition television on satellite and other platforms in mid-2006, Richard Freudenstein, BSkyB's Chief Operating Officer, said: “Sky welcomes today's announcement by the BBC. HD will bring a huge leap forward in picture quality when Sky's service launches on satellite next year. The BBC's commitment to HD is very positive news for this exciting technology and ensures that viewers will be able to enjoy an even wider choice of programmes in HD quality. Falling prices for HD Ready TVs available before Christmas are also contributing to growing interest in Sky's plans to launch HD."
