As you probably know the BBC is currently trialling a new flash bit of software called iMP (integrated media player) which basically uses a peer-to-peer system to enable users to download and view a programme they might have missed when broadcast live on TV.
One of the lesser known facts about iMP is that there is some HDTV footage on offer for viewers with fast internet connections to trial. If the message boards are anything to go by though it doesn’t sound like the HD experiment is going too well.
Several triallists have been trying to download an episode of the Planets in HD. One triallist says he has grabbed around half of the programme in 36 hours of downloading – and that’s with a one Meg connection. Another has been soldiering on for 48 hours and is not even half way through the download. Others have given up completely. Anyone else been having issues with the HD footage? Or even successfully managed to download and view a HD programme? Get in touch here (off the record of course…)
