Even though HD DVD is still going to beat Blu-ray to the punch, it looks like Sony has found a silver lining in the AACS delay by using it to explain away the console’s late launch. Even though a Sony spokesperson still claims it to be aiming for a Spring launch, it is looking more and more like Spring 2007 for us lucky Europeans. Playing the Blu-ray standards card does help to justify the delays but I can’t help feel that this isn’t the whole truth and there are numerous rumours about the PS3 circulating saying that no part of it is quite ready for launch yet. Obviously this rumour mongering is only catalysed by Sony’s stoic silence about the console and refusal to show off any working versions – most demo consoles seen so far are believed to be empty shells.
