Sky adds HD channels to its programme guide

Sky_logo_2 So when is Sky going to launch its HD service? One HDTVUK reader certainly knows. As for us we reckon it will now be an early April launch – hopefully coinciding with the announcement of a deal with the BBC to screen the World Cup in HD Sky is certainly gearing up to deliver its service as it today announced that TV listings info for the new channels will start appearing on its onscreen programme guide.

We haven't seen it ourselves but several HDTVUK readers are reporting that the new channels are up there. If viewers click on the channels they get to see an upgrade message.

According to Sky the channels will start appearing on the Sky Guide in three phases:

From 30 January**: Ch 311 - Sky Movies 9 HD Ch 312 - Sky Movies 10 HD

From 7 February**: Ch 405 - Sky Sports HD Ch 756 - Sky Box Office HD 1 Ch 593 - National Geographic HD (changing to 543 on 28 February)

From 14 February**: Ch 291 - Sky One HD (changing to 197 on 28 February) Ch 757 - Sky Box Office HD 2 Ch 158 - Artsworld HD* (changing to 268 on 28 February) Ch 557 -Discovery HD* [changing to 525 on 28 February]

It sounds like TeleWest are going to beat Sky by a month then:

My Telewest TVDrive arrives on Friday. The difference is though it has limited HD content compared to what Sky is offering. You can read about how I get on with the system next week.

Will sky HD use the dual LNB and 2 cables that sky+ uses, or is a complete dish + cable change?

The reason I ask is that I'm having sky installed this week in preparation for HD and will get dual LNB if needed.

I have recently bought a 26 inch LCD TV with
built in Freeview but not HD ready. Will aset top box be available to viewers like myself which will allow LCD sets to receive transmissions and show true HD ?
