Toshiba and Canon have announced their plans to begin mass production of Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Displays(SED) TVs in July 2007. SED showed up on our radar back in autumn last year and the technology immediately grabs attention as Canon claims that it offers high resolution than LCD, sucks less power than Plasma and generally offers a superior picture quality to both.
Obviously these claims should be taken with a pinch of salt and it is still too early to get a proper unbiased comparison going on, but we can admit to being very impressed with what we saw at the Canon Expo in October. Expect these sets to be the must-have TVs by the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
