What's hot in US HD this week
Introducing Luke - he's our Brit HD obsessive who's now in the USA and has access to all that fantastic HD programming. Are we jealous? You betcha. He'll be delivering his verdict on what's cool in US HD regularly on the site. Today he feasts his eyes on Prison Break and 24
btw Spolier alert
Monday is guy's night on the Fox TV Channel. After Monday night football has gone, we must prepare for more shaving commercials and chest pumping action. Prison Break is first on the menu, to be followed by 24 the quintessential post 9/11 American fear drama, or as a friend of mine out it, a confusing series of Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoon sequences. But that's because he looses the plot during all the commercials I suspect.
But it all comes in Fox Widescreen HDTV. Four years ago or more Fox was daubed FAUX by the HD community for introducing us to Fox Widescreen High Resolution TV. Anyone with a decent eye, and a proper HD set (some half resolution sets were being marketed as HD back then), could see that this was barely more than standard TV in widescreen. But not anymore.
Two years ago Fox really made the commitment, and began producing some of the most eye catching HD available, and plenty of it. 24 saw no explosions, or plain crashes, or nuclear attacks, just the quick, yet painful end of some long time characters, and the best bit of all the death of the "Fat Hobbit" Samwise. All good stuff if you have been up with the current season. Ah yes, yet again the arch villain has a distinguished English accent. Is Mel Gibson producing this show?
Well tonight did not disappoint. Such American male pleasing lines as "If you think I am leaving my brother behind then you have massively underestimated me", and "The train is leaving the station and I suggest you get on it" were uttered on Prison Break. I'm pretty sure I have heard the same lines on 24 in the past few weeks.
Strangely enough the actors portraying the brothers in this show were both born in England. Back to the action and our central character Michael takes a razor to his upper arm and cuts from it a small, dark pill. I have a 119 inch screen, and sit far to close to it for this scene to be comfortable. It was my HD moment of the night.
