Pioneer’s 50” 1080p plasma due for Europe
Claiming a “world’s first” for getting a 50 inch, 1080p plasma to the market (unless someone else sneaks in first), Pioneer has also kindly made sure that us Europeans first in on the act too. The 1080p resolution is going to make the PDP-5000EX a must-have for any ‘true HD’ fan and should cause a bit of a splash when it arrives in June.
The PDP-5000EX sports a wealth of technology to make it stand out from the few other 1080p rivals on the market; the PUREBLACK Crystal layer is a material sandwiched between the plasma glass and light cell that basically serves to improve brightness and reduce power consumption. Then there’s the more amusingly titled Deep Waffle Rib Structure which is important specifically for the purpose of that 1080p resolution – basically the image stays sharp and bright as a result.
Pioneer hasn’t made any hints at prices yet – that will be down to the resellers nearer the time – but you can bet it isn’t going to be cheap. If you’re prepared to part with the cash you’ll be one of the elite few, especially so in Europe, who has the power to enjoy HDTV to it’s full. Now all we need is some more HD programmes, maybe a new format player or two...
