Now that Tosh’s HD-A1 is out there it looks like the HD DVD war machine is gaining pace; RCA is rushing to join in on the act with its own player – the HDV500. It is due out in the US on May 18th.
Don’t know about you, but I think it looks a bit like the front end of a Cylon raider – apparently next-generation players aren’t meant to look particularly slick. Essential it is the same as Tosh’s current offering, boasting up to 1080i resolution, HDMI outputs and compatibility with ordinary DVDs, etc. Price-wise it is almost identical too, retailing at around $500.
US HD DVD player owners can also look forward to some new titles for their machines. Paramount is unveiling HD DVD editions Tomb Raider, Four Brother and U2: Rattle and Hum due for release on Monday. Can’t say that line-up would persuade me to commit to an HD DVD player though.

Looks like the Ferguson Videostar to me - are the DVD's top-loaded on this particular model?
No I think it's front loaded - to all extents and purposes I believe it is identical to the Tosh.
