Fujinon kitting out World Cup broadcaster with HD lenses

Worldcupobvan Over three billion people worldwide are expected to watch the World Cup: the first to be broadcast entirely in high definition.

So getting the outside broadcast equipment right is crucial.

Fujinon are kitting out Host Broadcast Services (HBS), who are producing broadcast content for FIFA, with over 100 HD lenses to be placed around the 12 stadiums in Germany.

Over 180 broadcasters worldwide have rights to show this output, so it had better be good.

For the 2006 FIFA World Cup, FIFA and HBS elected to produce the games in 1080/50i (16:9 widescreen) HD to ensure the highest quality viewing experience.

For you lens spotters out there, Fujinon's provision will include:

  • 22 HA13x4.5BERD-S;
  • 10 HA22x7.8BERDs;
  • 2 HA18x7.6BERDs;
  • 4 HA26X6.7BESMs;
  • 2 HA42x9.7BERDs;
  • 1 HA26x6.7BESM with Precision Focus Assist technology;
  • 51 XA87x9.3BESMs;
  • 9 XA101x8.9BESMs with Precision Focus Assist technology;
  • 4 XA87x9.3BESMs;
  • 3 XA72x9.3BESMs;
