Fed up with the HD DVD / Blu-ray war yet?
We wouldn't want to shirk our responsibility to report what's happening in the world of HD, and what senior management of top tech companies are saying, but it is getting a little tedious...
Andy Parsons, senior vice president of product development for Pioneer, has been talking to MacWorld, and assures them that Blu-ray will win over HD DVD because it has the backing of the majority of motion picture studios and consumer electronics manufacturers.
Most important is the content - seven Hollywood studios are backing Blu-ray outright, whilst two of the three studios supporting HD DVD will also support Blu-ray - fairly convincing majority you'd think.
Parsons also believes that Blu-ray's larger capacity (up to 50GB per disc at present) will cause it to become the preferred high-capacity computer data storage medium.
This is all very well, but I can't help thinking what we really need is Harry Hill to preside over affairs.
"Blu-ray. HD DVD. Who'll win? There's only one way to find out. FIGHT!"

I really think that blue ray will win at the end of the day because although Toshiba have announced that a 45GB triple layer disc will be available, T3 announced that a 200GB Blu-Ray disc is in the process. Why would anyone want an HD-DVD when you can have BLUE-RAY?
Well HD DVDs and their players are cheaper - which is all too often the reason for one technology to succeed over another. Plus you've got to think about how long these types of portable storage media are really going to be useful - how long will it be before we just download/stream everything? what then is the point in going with the more expensive option?
