Apologies for being a bit behind the times here, but I've been reading rumours (well, press releases and rumours) that TDK have started shipping Blu-ray media across Europe.
Whilst they're still working on a 200GB disc they've whetted our appetite for mass-storage on shiny <strike>coffee mats</strike> storage by releasing write-once and rewritable 25GB and 50GB capacity media.
Quite what we're supposed to use these for at present is Antone's guess - I certainly don't have a Blue-ray drive. Do you?
Still, it's nice to have some more expensive techno-bling - I believe their RRP is just under a tenner for the 25Gig recordable disc, and £12.89 for the 25Gig veritable one.
I haven't found them online anywhere yet. Well, OK, Dixons Online was unavailable this morning (mad rush for new media, I suspect) and PC World gave me no useful suggestions for 'Blu-ray'. And if these two retail giants don't stock it, it obviously isn't available, eh?
Any 'storage-spotters' out there care to tell us where you can get these TDK babies? And what we're supposed to do with them?
See some lovely pictures of the new media (via CDFreaks)
Technical specs:
- 25GB discs are cartridge-free, single-layer
- 50GB discs are dual-layer
- Discs contain DURABIS 2; an advanced protective hard coating formulation that resists scratches and fingerprints
