The BBC's World Cup HD footage
Well there's precious little football in HD on the Sky box at the moment. All the programmes on Sky Sports HD, including several football items, are in SD.
If you want a glimpse of what the World Cup might look like in HD the BBC has a very short trailer which features Micheal Owen's goal against Brazil from the last World Cup.
Football in HD is an amazing experience. However fast moving players and balls make it quite tricky to capture games in HD without there being some digital blur. I watched the 2005 Champions League final in HD on an SED set (which arguably offers superior picture quality to LCD) and even though the whole experience was amazing I couldn't help but note the picture blur every time the ball moved quickly.
Well the BBC World Cup footage looks impressive, but there's still a smidgen of blur. I suspect it must be relatively easy to edit footage to make it very stable, but ensuring it isn rock steady while screening it live is another matter.

Yes, I just bought myself a sky sports upgrade (I don't like sport - it's just so I can see the quality for a month or so) and found so far all the material on sky sports HD is in standard definition! Also the world cup and wimbledon will be on BBC HD which is free. Looks like I might finally get something for paying the total rip off license fee for all these years?
