Amino offer world's first single-chip HD IPTV set-top box
UK-based company Amino, a leading supplier of IPTV set-top boxes, today announced that it will be rolling out production of its single-chip HD AVC/H.264 IPTV set top box (STB), designed specifically for the hospitality industry, in the autumn. The AmiNET130H is a world first.
Until now, hotels had to use expensive individual PC-based STBs meaning the cost of rolling out premium TV services to guests was often prohibitive.
This new systen, based on the AmiNET110H design already widely in use, will significantly reduce costs and speed the rate of HD rollout throughout the industry.
"When people stay in hotels, especially the prestige locations that we believe will be early adopters of HD AVC IPTV, they expect the entire guest experience, including the quality of entertainment, to be a class above what they can enjoy at home. Guests are demanding services such as early releases of premium HD Hollywood movies and HD internet browsing on the TV." commented Roy Kirsopp, VP and General Manager of Amino Communications. "The AmiNET130H is based on Amino's proven IPTV technology and will allow hotels to not only meet, but exceed guests' expectations while generating new revenue streams and high value services."
The unit features a second Ethernet port for additional services such as high-speed Internet access and VoIP. It also features a TV interface enabling the whole system to be controlled from one TV remote control.
