Matsushita's 103-inch plasma TV available from September
We reported earlier this year that Matsushita (brand name Panasonic) had developed the largest plasma screen to date - 103 inches.
They've recently announced that they will start production of these units in September.
They expect to sell 5000 TVs each year, 500 of which will be for Japan. It's a showcase example of Panasonic's bid to take a bigger share of the large-flat-screen (50+ inch) market. They believe that plasma TVs still have significant advantages over their LCD counterparts, and at extreme sizes, over front-projection systems.
The manufacture of 100+ inch screens is rather a different animal, with technical challenges that maintain stable discharge and high picture quality across the entire surface of the panel.
You'd have to be pretty rich, and have a big house, to add this giant screen to your home cinema system - Panasonic will be selling the units for 6 million Yen (£28,000)
