One religious group has gone distinctly high-tech, with the introduction of JVC HD equipment into their new AV department. They've invested in a GY-HD101E shoulder/handheld camera and BR-HD50E recorder.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Solihull are using it to record local training programmes onto DVD, as well as material for the organisation's global satellite network.
"Supplied by Tom Barnacle of Midlands based Altered Images, and headed by Chris Wills, who started his career as a stills-man for American film companies on location, the facility creates local training programmes for distribution as DVDs and also for broadcasting over the church's global satellite network. "With a background in cinematography, I knew that Chris would love the GY-HD101. From a professional's perspective everything is in the right place, with a shoulder mount and the interchangeable manual lens, this really is the best HDV camera in the market." Explained Tom."
I can see the advantage of using this equipment in the current transition period between SD and HD. The camera and recorder will quite happily work in standard format as well as HD up to 720p, with the camera supporting up to 1080i should they invest in a high-def DVD recorder in the future.
Certainly it's religion moving with the times. Now I don't think the manufacturer's initials had anything to do with their choice...
