You've probably already read about the slow down in production of HD DVD and Blu-ray equipment due to a shortage of components. Sony, one of the larger manufacturers, have stopped shipments to many other companies who rely on them due to their own PS3 and BDP-51 plans. And HD DVD doesn't get away with it either - they both need the hallowed blue laser.
But is it really such a huge deal that things have slowed down? Sure, there won't be so many next-gen players for this year's holiday season, but were consumers going to buy players in their droves anyway? I think we're still in early adopter territory.
It may delay widescale introduction of the two formats in Europe - but then again are consumers desperate to rush out and get next-gen players? We're only just coming to terms with high-def TVs...
Problem or hype? After all, claim there's a shortage of anything and in the end it seems to increase demand - if the product's worth having in the first place.
