MetaLink have announced that they'll be demonstrating its WLANPlus 802.11n draft technology at the IBC show in Amsterdam next month. Though 802.11n is still uncertified, several manufacturers including Philips have licensed the technology for use in their HD TVs and other equipment.
Multiple streaming of HD content is something that will become increasingly important in future high-def digital homes, as consumers will want to watch more than one HD programme at once.
MetaLink claim:
The demonstration will feature the delivery of multiple High-Definition video streams over wireless LAN, at wire line quality, using Metalink's WLANPlus technology. WLANPlus is an advanced Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) technology, designed to enable high-throughput, rich-content, quality-critical applications. Targeted at the emerging 802.11n standard, WLANPlus introduces a significant increase in WLAN throughput and range over 802.11a or 802.11g.
No doubt MetaLink will be hoping that their 'standard' will become de facto by more manufacturers taking it on, despite reports that the actual 802.11n specification ratification could be further delayed.
