Sony VPL-VW50 "Pearl" 1080p projector coming soon?
Well, if a translated, leaked memo reported in HD Beat is anything to go by (we like direct stories) the next 1080p Sony projector isn't far off. If it's not, well shoot us. It sounds good enough to me, though someone commented that, from the images, it looks as if someone at Sony took a rectangular projector and 'pressed down on the edges'. Quite.
Anyway, the "Pearl" projector is 1080p, relying on Sony's SXRD technology, has a dynamic contrast ratio of 15,000:1 and a static contrast ratio of 5,000:1. There are two HDMI ports, which is good, and probably component inputs as well, though the translation is a bit flaky and doesn't mention them directly. I don't think we'll see non-component projectors for a while yet.
Availability in October apparently - at least in Japan. I guess we'll get to see it sometime thereafter. More details when things are officially announced.
