HD Beat was tipped off that another firmware update for the Toshiba first-generation HD DVD player is imminent, and released as version 2.0.
The major enhancement in this release is the ability to decode TrueHD 5.1 audio.
HD Beat isn't too enamoured that these updates are coming out so quickly, but I guess it's good that modern AV equipment can be updated in this way, rather than simply getting stuck with a dodgy machine with no hope of upgrade.
They also say there are some other 'cool features' - well there ought to be something pretty important for a whole new version upgrade - but don't say what. Guess we'll have to wait for an official announcement.
