Sky's Artsworld HD is to premiere "Ballet Rocks", a fusion of Brit band Bloc Party and classical ballet company English National Ballet, to showcase high-def TV in a new way.
In a change from wildlife and sport, this mix of modern music and traditional ballet will showcase the amazing sound and picture quality of high definition. The result is an unconventional but striking mixture of contemporary and classical movement set off by stylish sets and lighting showing classical ballet breaking out of its traditional mould.
English National Ballet are in part sponsored by Sky and Artsworld, and donated 22-year-old Jenna Lee to choreograph the film. Six English National Ballet Company members star in the film and are some of the finest classically trained dancers in the world: First Soloist, Fernanda Oliveira, Soloists Begoña Cao, Joanne Clarke and Fabian Reimair and Artists of the Company James Forbat and Max Westwell.
Bloc Party’s song Banquet is the soundtrack to the film and marries punk rock music with the fluidity and strength of ballet.
Coinciding with London Fashion Week, the film, plus a 'making of' documentary, will be screened from 10pm on Wednesday 20th September on Artsworld HD, as part of Artsworld's Fashion Night.
