Another Blu-ray/HD DVD prediction: Blu-ray will win but it'll take 2 years
Here we go with another speculation over which of the two main high-def DVD formats will come out on top. This time it's Forrester who say that Blu-ray will likely win because it has better backing from the content producers, and ultimately it's content that wins format wars.
That's not the whole story, though, as four other factors have been measured including console sales, the number of PCs and laptops sold with each drive type, the amount of shelf and advertising space each format gets from major retailers, and general press reaction.
Pretty much what you'd expect, but Forrester have also said that it will be a long and protracted fight, believing that it'll take two years of uncertainty, with the formats existing side-by-side, before consumers settle on one format. They'll continue to enjoy their (still relatively new) DVD content on high-def displays, which is impressive enough, before taking the plunge into another format.
Not the best news for manufacturers, possibly, except maybe those targeting the gamers who'll get their HD DVD or Blu-ray fix by early 2007.

I reckon that in the end, the format that porn-producers choose will be the one that ends up on top. (How about that analogy?) Like it or not, it's a huge industry that is based on online content and selling DVDs (and tapes). HD-DVD and BluRay lobbyists may not talk about it, but you can be sure they're trying just as hard to get pornographers to go with their format as they are with studios.
