UK HD programming: What's on this weekend Oct 6-8

Here's a look at some programmes you might want to catch up on in high definition this weekend:

Comedy

The BBC have been shooting some of their latest sitcoms and comedy dramas in high-definition, and they're ready to watch on BBC HD tonight. Whether they're comedy is up to you to decide, but we have Only Fools countryside spinoff The Green Green Grass (8.30pm), comedy drama Sorted (9.50pm), and Jack Dee's Lead Balloon (11pm).

Drama

Late tonight (0.15am) on Sky One HD is the sci-fi series Stargate SG-1. More drama tomorrow with Robin Hood on BBC HD at 7.05pm or 7.50pm.

Sports

Sports action tomorrow at noon with Nottingham Forest V Scunthorpe United live on Sky Sports HD, followed by two Euro 2008 qualifier treats: Wales V Slovakia at 2.30pm and Scotland V France at 5pm. And good old BBC has England v Macedonia at 4.45pm on BBC HD.

Prefer some Football League Division 1 and 2 action? Sunday's your day, with Brighton and Hove Albion V Blackpool at 1pm and Grimsby Town V Hereford United at 3.30pm. Good to see the lower leagues getting the high-def treatment courtesy of Sky.

Music/Art

How about some music and arts? Switch over to Artsworld HD on Saturday at 2pm for Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" charity concert from 2004, with some of the world's greatest and most highly-renowned guitarists including BB King, Brian May, Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy. Into opera? Watch LA Gazetta at 4.30pm. Or how about a 1981 Ray Charles concert (which is touted as being in high definition) at 10pm. Presumably they shot this on film so can claim conversion makes it high-def.

Films

Your movie choices over the weekend include Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace (Friday 9pm Sky Movies 9 HD), Kill Bill Vol 2 (Friday 11.50pm Sky Movies 9 HD), Hitch (Saturday 7pm Sky Movies 9 HD), and Shrek 2 (Sunday 11am/5pm Sky Movies 9 HD). BBC HD is showing My Summer of Love at 10pm on Sunday.
