An interesting technology discussion is that of the effect the adult film industry often has on the development and dominance of certain consumer electronics.
The decision of the porn industry to distribute its films on VHS has often been hailed as the biggest nail in the Betamax-shaped coffin.
So it's interesting that, at least for the moment, even the adult film industry is holding back on which high definition optical disc format to adopt. Of course, this isn't stopping them actually releasing films - they're currently doing it on both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats.
Current production costs were quoted at around five times higher for blue-laser formats than for standard DVDs, at around $50,000 versus $10,000, and the relatively small market at present seems to be causing this industry to wait.
It's possible that the imminent release of HD gaming consoles and add-ons will help to sway the decision.
