DivX HD support expands in US, may become popular in Bollywood
ZDNet reports on DivX, the video compression technology, and how it's finally beginning o make inroads into the US. Its former association with film piracy has made US film studios wary of it, though now the company more actively supports DRM.
DivX seems keen to branch into HD content, particularly in Eastern Europe, Asia and India, where HD DVD and Blu-ray will likely prove too expensive.
The company is keen to cut deals with Bollywood film producers and executives to get them to adopt a high definition version of the DivX software.
However, no deal with a US studio seems likely, yet. Deals that may have been in the pipeline have fallen through.
DivX plans to make its presence felt at January's Consumer Electronics Show.
