We've reported before that the overall price of flat panel LCD and plasma TVs has been dropping over the past few years, as they've become more popular, and as manufacturing processes have improved.
However, now some are asking whether prices are falling too fast.
TVPredictions picks up on an article published at News.com in which Sony Electronics is unhappy at the rapidly falling prices, believing that ultimately they'll hurt the consumer electronics industry.
Now, we all like a bargain, and we also know that Sony are renowned for premium prices.
The News.com article suggests that LCD HDTVs will drop in price between 25 and 30 per cent this year - 5-7% more than Sony were expecting.
The problem Sony foresees is that, whilst this is great for the consumer in the short time, it could leave less money available for future technological development.
"LCDs will continue to experience heavy price erosion, but not at this level," said Stan Glasgow, president of Sony Electronics. "It is hard to see that business model (of drastic price cuts) sustaining itself."
