The recent Casino Royale has raised the standard for macho action movies but cult film-maker Luc Besson has been toiling away on his own brand of martial-arts tinged actioners for a few years, purely in a producing capacity.
Transporter 2, directed by Louis Leterrier (replacing the original’s Corey Yuen) is exactly what you’d expect. It's a big, over-the-top chase movie with Jason Statham returning in his role of ex-Special Forces operative Frank Martin, aka The Transporter...
The sequel finds him working as a highly paid driver and bodyguard for a rich Miami family. When the family’s twin brothers are kidnapped, Frank must track down the criminal who masterminded the plot and, of course, save the twins.
Don’t expect much logic or plot (what story there is seems to have come from the Denzel Washington vehicle Man on Fire) but do expect intense, expertly choreographed action and lots of things exploding.
