It looks as if we'll be seeing a number of second-generation models in both the HD DVD and Blu-ray camps at CES this year. We've already seen Tosh's 2nd-gen HD DVD drives, including the new mid-range HD-A20 revealed at the show, and now Samsung have revealed their new Blu-ray player: the BD-P1200.
According to Susi over at Shiny Shiny, the new player has had 'a few tweaks', such as improved networking capabilities over both Ethernet and HDMI. They're also making a big thing about their 'Hollywood Quality Video" (HQV) processor which is supposed to be as good as the film production companies use, plus the machine's backward compatibility with both DVDs and CDs (possibly a poke at the new hybrid machine from LG that doesn't play audio CDs?)
There's not much more info than this at present. No report on whether the HDMI interface has been updated to version 1.3.
There's also no definitive word on how much it will cost or when it will be available.
