Reports suggest that Sony is making it very difficult for the adult film industry to get its films on to the Blu-ray disc format.
Whilst the Blu-ray Disc Association has said there is no rule that states that adult content films cannot be put on Blu-ray, the fact is that there are relatively few disc replicators around at present.
According to Robby D, a director at Digital Playground, Sony has effectively told replicators that if they copy adult films, they will lose their license. Additionally, Sony will not allow its replicator subsidiary, Sony DADC, from handling adult films.
Many are drawing parallels yet again with the Betamax versus VHS fight. Some claim that it is Sony's rejection of any adult content on the Beta format that led to its eventual demise.
Like it or not, the porn industry has a lot of cash, and could be a major factor in deciding which high definition disc format makes it big.
