Nintendo Wii has 'secret' high definition capability?
An article at The Inquirer (and now buzzing around the Net) suggests that the Nintendo Wii, that we all thought was strictly standard definition, may have a hidden high definition feature after all.
"It is amazing what you can get out of a drunk Nintendo executive. Who would have thought Nintendo knows anything about CPUs and GPUs?"
Ahh, it's going to be one of those stories is it?
I think we can safely say that any 'news' that comes from drunken executives should be filed under rumour, and left there.
The reason you don't see it is twofold, the fact that the console can't really push HD rez at reasonable frame rates and the fact that it would cost more. The latter will probably become a moot point with the first Wii refresh but the former problem is really here to stay.
I'm sure a souped-up Wii could quite happily push high definition, but developers would need to be told about it first. Nice read for a Monday morning, though.
