This brand new supernatural drama continues in HD with this toothy tale called “Hair of the Dog”. Chicago based professional wizard Harry Dresden (Paul Blackthorne) is asked by Detective Murphy (Valerie Cruz) to help her look into a series of ritualistic deaths.
He discovers that werewolves are involved, except that the beasts in question are the victims, not the perpetrators. The bodies are found without teeth or hair. Dresden wonders – is the murderer taking trophies or is there some other significance to the mutilation, and is it part of a bigger spree of killings?
This fledgling series still hasn’t bedded in yet. The voice-over heavy approach mirrors the hard-boiled film noir detective genre, which the stories roughly adhere to, but the show clearly wants to aim for a more spectacular fantasy approach. However, it doesn’t quite achieve this due to an obvious low budget and limited locations. If it doesn’t get cancelled we’ll see if it gets any better.
