Disney's CEO Bob Iger isn't one of those who thinks high definition optical discs are dying, but he has come out and stated what Basil Fawlty might claim is the bleedin' obvious - the high definition DVD war needs a winner.
Iger said that high definition DVD's and movie downloads were not threatening the standard DVD business, stating, “We’re very confident the DVD business is going to continue to be successful. We sold 130 million DVDs last quarter. This business is not going away for us at all.”
He made no prediction over which format would win, despite Disney as a company currently backing Blu-ray.
None of this is particularly revolutionary - we all know there needs to be a winner (unless hybrid players get cheaper and have the complete specification for both HD DVD and Blu-ray).
