New Media Enterprises, developers of the HD-VMD format, continue to push into Europe by striking a deal with MCA Technology, an established distributor, and targeting the French consumer market.
With similarities to their US deal with PC Rush, MCA will have exclusive distribution rights for the HD VMD technology.
NME is planning to launch a special edition bundle containing an HD VMD player and 5 free HD VMD movies, plus a catalogue so consumers can order more titles. It will carry a recommended price of €299 (about £200).
Dov Ayache, CEO of MCA Technology also comments that "The HD revolution is starting, MCA Technology gave its commitment to NME on sales promotion and distribution of HD VMD players because we strongly believe this is the economical alternative to other HD formats today. Furthermore we will be able to propose a large selection of content. We will use our strength and experience to launch and develop HD VMD in France."
Far from being designed primarily for emerging markets, NME are pushing into both the US and Europe, and you can't get much more tech-savvy than those two markets.
