One thing we expected Tosh to say today at its UK press launch in Hertforshire was that LCD was taking on plasma in the big screen TV market. In fact it went one better and told us that figures from industry researchers GFK for the end of last year and the beginning of this year showed that LCD now has a lead over plasma in the 37inch plus big screen market. Apparently around 180,000 plasma sets were sold in the period – mainly Panasonic who were discounting its sets quite heavily in the run up to Christmas – compared with 225,000 LCD sets.
Is the writing now on the wall for plasma? Panasonic and Pioneer don’t think so. But would you buy a plasma?

Having just taken the plunge with a new 1080p Panasonic LCD I have to say Plasma is definately the better bet. Even though my old Vierra is only 1080i it easily outshines the new panel in black-levels, colour palette, and is way more forgiving for Standard Def material.
At screen sizes above 32" it has to be Plasma.
Would I buy a plasma? Absolutely. As the previous comment mentions, above 32" plasma blows LCD out of the water. I got pioneers 50" 1080p last year and have yet to see a better picture on any screen except their subsequent models. The only reason lcd has a market lead is price and price alone; but the old adage still sticks, you get what you pay for.
If plasma TVs were any good then why doesn't the plasma manufacturers have enouugh faith to include 'burn-in' within their warranties?
Claiming that all plasma TVs are better than all LCDs is misleading and actually false.
With an HD TV I wouldn't use a poor SD (standard definition) signal, because I would use a good quality digital signal.
Best LCD TVs produces a better picture in brightly lit conditions.
Not everybody likes soft images.
Implying that any reviews loss by plasma TVs to LCDs is based on price is actually and literally complete nonsense.
Why are some plasma TVs cheaper than some LCDs and why have plasma TV prices been substantially been reduced?
