New 'official' predictions for global HD disc dominance

blurayhddvd.jpegSurprise, surprise! Listen to one expert, and HD DVD will win the format war. Listen to their opposite, and it's Blu-ray that triumphs.

At present, it seems as much to do with which side of the Atlantic you live on.

Speaking in Hanover, Germany, on behalf of the European HD DVD Promotional Group, Yoshihide Fujii, Chairman, said that their goal was to achieve global penetration of the HD DVD format.

By the end of Q1 2007, more than 100 titles will be available throughout Europe. More than one-third of these titles come from European studios and none of them are currently available on any other high-definition format.

HD DVD is certainly stronger in Europe and the UK at present, though the reverse is true in the US who have had better access to both formats.

Perhaps that's why Frank Simonis (interestingly, of the European Blu-ray Promotions Group) confidently predicts that within three years, Blu-ray will replace standard DVDs.

Not a chance, surely? Yes, anyone with a high definition disc player can upscale their existing DVDs, but there's no way such a dominant format (DVD) is going to be totally ousted by either one of the new high-def formats in such a short time, even if there were no format war.

At least the stance of HD DVD promoters feels a little more realistic.

Once again we see rival companies and formats going head to head and pushing for their own brand of high definition and greed for the cash from the consumer to back their product.

This is all very childish and immature and shows no regard for the consumer , who simply want High definition movies on their High definition Tv's.

The one who will win , will be the one that assures the consumer of future films and titles and that their hardware is not going to be obselete in a years time .

There are millions of customers who are waiting and waiting to see who wins . The fact is no one will win because in not so many years there will be a new format and a new war .

Companies like the ones that are producing their own models are not worthy of our money , when they cant even make a agreement over a combination of technologies . Of course they can , but they wont , because of MONEY... Greed pure and simple .

One day a company might actually put the consumer first.... until that day

Millions will sit on the fence and wait till the sqaubbles are over
