Orad unveil 3DReplay HD/SD soccer analysis system
Orad, who provide virtual studios and on-air graphics, will be showing off their new 3DReplay system at NAB 2007.
3DReplay is a soccer analysis system that converts key events from video into a 3D graphic model which can then be viewed from different angles and played back in a variety of ways.
We've already seen the use of computer-generated imagery and animation used in post-match analysis, and this system could offer even more realistic scenes from which to analyse games.
3DReplay works by freezing the action at the required moment, and then fading the 2D flat frame out into the 3D graphic model. The original camera viewpoint can then be gradually changed, creating a virtual camera path.
Based on the powerful performance of Orad´s HDVG video graphics rendering platform, 3DReplay can easily reconstruct, in both HD and SD resolutions, events into 3D models with smooth camera fly-throughs and stunning video game like quality graphics.
Orad say that the system offers near real-time replay capabilities, meaning it's quick and easy to provide generated high definition footage for half-time, full-time, and highlights programmes, and potentially even in-game analysis.
3DReplay also offers revenue generation possibilities, as virtual billboards can be placed within the virtual stadium.
Unfortunately, there aren't any decent photos of the system in action at present (the thumbnails on Orad's website don't link properly) but we'll add them as they become available.
