Samsung has introduced a number of new LCD and plasma screens to the European market.
The M87 Series are full HD 1080p LCD TVs and come in 37, 40, 46, and 52 inch versions.
All but the 37 inch set feature Samsung's Super Clear technology, which claims to give the most realistic black reproduction, and they all feature a Movie Plus mode, which is supposed to eliminate motion judder, Wide Colour Enhancer, delivering more brilliant colours, and Game Mode, allowing for H-Sharpness and faster response time when playing video games.
They have a PAL Colour Gamut of 127% (100% for 37-inch), 8ms response rate, 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (8,000:1 on 37-inch), 178-degree viewing angle, 550 nits of brightness, 3 HDMI 1.3 ports, and SRS Trusurround XT. They feature a hidden speaker design.
The R87 Series are HD Ready sets, available in sizes 23, 26, 32, 37, and 40 inches. As per the M87 series, they feature Movie Plus and Wide Colour Enhancer. They have a brightness of 450 nits, dynamic contrast ratio of between 4,000:1 and 8,000:1 (dependent on screen size), 8ms response rate, between 160 and 178-degrees viewing angle, 100% PAL colour gamut, 3 HDMI 1.2 ports, A2/NiCAM stereo, SRS Trusurround sound, and picture in picture.
The Q97 Series are 'premium' plasma high definition TVs available in 42 and 50 inch sizes.
Interestingly, the 42 inch set has a 1024 x 768 resolution, whereas the 50 inch set has a 1365 x 768 resolution, so I'm not quite sure how 16:9 aspect ratio is displayed on the smaller set - presumably with black bars top and bottom.
They feature a contrast ratio of 15,000:1, Ultra FilterBright, Super Black Panel, and Optimal Light Filter technologies that help to bring sharp contrast, detail and clarity even in bright lighting conditions, Natural True Colour for balanced colour even during fast-moving scenes, Silhouette Editor that refines the face tone and shape of an image, Smart Frame Plus to eliminate flickering, Movie Mode, and Game Mode.
The screens have a viewing angle of over 175 degrees, 16 bit colour, 65536 levels of grey gradation, digital comb filter, digital noise reduction, and SRS TruSurround XT. They also feature anti burn-in technology and power saving.
All are available now.
