It’s episode 12 of 24’s sixth season on Sky One HD (March 18), so Jack is precisely half way through his latest day of extreme crisis management. So far this season seems to be reliving past glories, as did season five very heavily, but with rather less impact this time round. Maybe we are getting just too used to the show’s manipulative ways.
However, it was a delight to see last year’s arch villain Charles Logan (Gregory Itzin) make a surprise reappearance recently. Jack has reluctantly joined forces with Logan to find the mastermind behind the morning's nuclear attack, Dmitri Gredenko (Rade Serbedzija), even if it means breaking into the Russian Embassy.
As Logan helpfully points out before Jack attempts this radical course of action, he’s tried that before with the Chinese Embassy and look where that got him!
There is also chaos in Washington, as Wayne Palmer is treated for his injuries following the assassination attempt. Vice-President Noah Daniels (Deadwood's Powers Boothe) takes over command and wastes no time in ignoring Palmer’s wishes by instigating an ill-advised clampdown on civil liberties.
Can the more moderate Karen Hayes (Jayne Atkinson) get her old job back to redress the balance? And what of Tom Lennox (Peter MacNicol) who is stuck in the middle of this mess?
