Sony continues to push its BRAVIA range beyond TVs, with the introduction of its AW-Series of high definition video projectors.
The entry level VPL-AW10 and the enhanced VPL-AW15 share a number of features including 720p HD resolution, multiple inputs including HDMI, Sony's 24p True Cinema system which offers more accurate reproduction of films when connected to a compatible high definition disc player such as the Sony BDP-S1E, a brightness of up to 1,300 lumens, and a contrast ratio of 12,000:1 (6,000:1 for the VPL-AW10). They also feature Sony's Advanced Iris 2 technology which adjusts the iris scene by scene to ensure optimum contrast.
The VPL-AW15 features specially modified LCDs featuring a High Contrast Plate which stops light from the lamp leaking through when the LCD is blacked out.
Both projectors are capable of projecting a picture up to 80 inches diagonal from just 2.3 metres away.
The VPL-AW15 has a lens shift function that lets you move the picture up to a quarter of its width from side to side and over half its height up or down.
The projectors' fans run at an acceptably quiet 20dB.
Availability and price to be confirmed.
