At the NAB show in Las Vegas, Maxell has showcased an array of optical media, including their new SVOD (Stacked Volumetric Optical Disc) system which claims the capability of up to 5 terabytes of storage.
In fact, SVOD isn't about squeezing more data onto single optical discs, but about layering 100 DVDs in cartridges to provide capacity ranging from 940GB to 5TB.
Maxell has also released its own brand of HD DVD and Blu-ray media, plus Holographic Optical Recording Technology including the HDS-300R drive which is capable of recording 300GB of data on a single disk with a transfer rate of 160Mbps.
