On Friday April 13 there’s a chance to catch talented folk/rock singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne recorded at the intimate setting of the LSO St Luke's, London, where BBC Four has presented a number of musicians in recent months. The BBC will also be showing the hour-long programme simultaneously on its HD channel.
While sound is obviously the key feature of a musical performance, crisp and moody visuals enhance the experience too, as the HD broadcasts of Later with Jools Holland also highlight.
New Hampshire-born LaMontagne is backed up in this session with his core band: Jen Condos on bass, Jay Bellerose on drums and Eric Heywood on guitars. He is also accompanied by strings and horns for this session, providing the same lush sound as heard on his albums Trouble and Till the Sun Turns Black.
The husky voiced LaMontagne emerged in recent years alongside the likes of Ryan Adams, Scott Matthews and Damien Rice and has been compared with Tim Buckley and Van Morrison thanks to his subtle, mature and emotionally charged work.
Songs featured in the programme include: Three More Days, Shelter, Hold You In My Arms, Be Here Now, Empty, Barfly, Gone Away From Me, Trouble, Till The Sun Turns Black, You Can Bring Me Flowers, Jolene and Can I Stay.
