Microsoft has hit back at the recent story suggesting that Microsoft may add Blu-ray to its Xbox 360 if that becomes the dominant format.
Writing on Gamerscoreblog, an MS representative claims to be "clearing the air" - or perhaps appeasing the HD DVD Promotional Group - by stating that they remain fully committed to HD DVD.
Apparently, the 'news' inferred from Peter Moore's ITmedia interview is "completely incorrect":
We firmly stand behind the HD DVD format as the best choice for consumers. Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan, which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect. We’re fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats.
To which I say to you, Microsoft: b*llocks.
I know Microsoft is arrogant, but I can't believe that they'd stick with a high definition disc format if it became obsolete.
If Blu-ray does become the dominant format, surely Microsoft would create an add-on drive for it? After all, the only purpose of the Xbox's external high definition drive is to play commercial movies. It has no (or little) other point.
Remember that Internet thing, Microsoft? You were a bit slow off the mark there, but you adopted it once you saw its potential, and now you can't stop talking about it.
I'd expect Sony to stand fully behind Blu-ray, because it put such a massive amount of money and development into it, and the PS3 has a strong dependence on it. Microsoft, on the other hand, though an HD DVD supporter, don't really have such a vested interest. The very fact that their high definition drive is an add-on means it can be changed in the future with no impact on the core Xbox 360 console.
Be bullish, sure, but I'm still a little concerned at your protestations that "Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan, which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect."
You don't have a back-up plan? Riiiiight.
Is the thought of Blu-ray so repulsive that you won't even consider the possibility of adopting it in the future?
Arrogant, or just stupid?

Maybe they'll just create a new SKU (Elite anyone?)... but then again consumers didnt want HDMI.... right.
Wonder if they have a backup for the Zune, lol.
