JVC announce second-gen LCD HDTVs

jvc_hd_lcd_tvs_2007.jpgJVC has announced its second generation LCD HDTVs, all featuring Clear Motion Drive II (CMD) technology.

CMD II features a refresh rate of 120Hz, as per the first version, but has been designed specifically for 1080p displays. It claims to improve motion detection fivefold over the initial version.

The CMD II system allows the TV to display two frames - the original frame and an interpolated frame based on the movement detected in the picture - in the same time as a normal 60Hz TV would display a single frame. For each pixel, this motion detection works on about 8,000 surrounding pixels, across the entire image. This has the effect of reducing motion blur.

The TV uses JVC's fifth-generation Digital Image Scaling Technology (DIST) on their 32-bit Genessa chip. This is supposed to optimise processing for more natural shades of grey than available on an 8-bit panel. JVC’s 10-bit panel with the Genessa chip can render more than one billion colours.

Each set will have three HDMI 1.3 inputs, and boast a sleeker design featuring a bezel measuring less than 1.5 inches all the way round, and a cabinet that's shorter and narrower than previous models of the same size.

The new series, available in 37, 42, and 47-inch sizes (model numbers LT-37X898, LT-42X898, and LT-47X898) will arrive in the US sometime in the autumn. No details on pricing or UK availability yet.
