Motorola study shows half of Europe watching TV online
A new study commissioned by Motorola suggests that nearly half of Europe is watching TV over the Internet, lured by the advantage of watching programmes when they want to.
While the survey wasn't exhaustive by any means - 2,500 broadband users in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain - it does provide an encouraging outlook for the future of watching TV online.
59% of French broadband users surveyed watch TV online, followed by 48% of Italians, 43% of Brits, and then 33% of Germans.
On average, users plug three devices into their TV sets, meaning that the TV is becoming quite a hub for a number of forms of entertainment.
57% of respondents would like the ability to go online via their TV during a live broadcast, and 35% want PVR functionality.
Though there's no specific mention of high definition content, it can only be a matter of time before broadband speed and improved compression of HD content allows it.
