Pace, who currently make set-top boxes for Sky. Virgin Media, and a number of US broadcasters, are planning to launch their own branded home multimedia system.
Though plans are being kept fairly quiet, the Financial Mail believes that the device will include a digital TV box, high definition TV decoder, and PVR, as well as including a broadband modem.
Pace is predicting that there will be a boom in the UK and Europe as both digital and high definition TV take over from analogue and standard definition signals.
It will be interesting to see exactly what kind of device Pace launches, given that terrestrial high definition TV is not yet a reality in the UK. The company used to make Freeview boxes but stopped as prices fell.
Whatever happens with the UK's terrestrial TV service over the next decade, Pace should certainly have the expertise required to build equipment to make the most of it. We'll keep an eye on their branded equipment when ever it launches.
