Panasonic has announced the successor to last year's DMP-BD10 Blu-ray player.
The cunningly named DMP-BD10A is now available Stateside, with a substantial price drop to five cents short of US$600, and bundled with five fairly decent Blu-ray films.
Things are much the same as before, although the player's audio capabilities have received a welcome boost, now able to handle 7.1 surround sound, dts-HD and Dolby True HD.
Other features include upcoversion of standard definition material to 1080p via HDMI, proprietary P4HD technology for performing IP conversion at the pixel level for ultra-fine details, a 297MHz 14bit Video D/A Converter with 4X oversampling, video noise shaping that improves signal-to-noise ratios by shifting noise to an unused band, and theoretical support for nearly 4400 billion colors.
Importantly, BD-J is present, so Blu-ray interactivity isn't a problem.
The five titles bundled with the new player are Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest, Transporter, Fantastic 4, and Crash.
No news on European availability or pricing at present.
