Pioneer has announced the launch of the "HD digital film direct 24" standard. This label will be applied to any product that can accurately handle 24fps movie content.
As we've reported before, movie buffs in PAL regions of the world have suffered with regular broadcasts and DVDs playing back content at 25fps, with the effect of speeding up the film and raising the pitch of audio.
New high definition discs can offer true 24fps copy, but require hardware able to play back the disc.
The first Pioneer products that will carry this logo include all of their new flat screen TVs, which display 24fps source at 72Hz, their new BDP-LX70 Blu-ray Disc player, and the new AV Receiver range.
This is a Pioneer initiative, but the logo itself isn't branded with the company name. It's not clear whether the logo will be licensed or available to other companies, or whether they'd even want to carry such a logo.
Though it's not a standard yet, many of the more recent players, TVs, and projectors will accept and display 24fps content.
