Although these shores have yet to witness the arrival of Samsung's second-generation Blu-ray player, the BD-P1200, and there's still no sign of the long awaited BD-UP5000 dual HD player – there's already talk of a third-generation model across the Atlantic.
We weren't sure if the arrival of the BD-UP5000 hybrid HD-DVD and Blu-ray player suggested Samsung was no longer devoted to a single format. But, despite flirting with other technologies, it seems Samsung has returned to its first love with the BD-P1400.
Rumours have surfaced Stateside that the new dedicated Blu-ray player is a step up from the apparently glitchy BD-P1200 and could arrive here instead of the second-generation model at around Christmas – the same time that the hybrid model is supposedly due.
We imagine the latest Blu-ray incarnation will arrive with previously missing features such as 1080p/24, BD Live, Picture-in-Picture and persistent storage support. But, without any specific information we'll have to hold our breath again to find out – and given the inflated prices of Samsung's earlier offerings we don't expect it to come cheap.
