Local dimming technology? No, it's not a feature that automatically tunes you into the most banal programme currently being aired, but rather a function of Samsung's new LED backlighting technology.
Samsung's new 70-inch full HD 1080p LCD TV enables the LED backlight to be turned off in dark image areas, which they claim can give a dynamic contrast ratio of 500,000:1. Additionally, power consumption can be lowered by up to 50 per cent.
The TV is finished off with a piano black bezel, as is the current fashion, with titanium chrome trim. It also features dual hidden speakers and rear woofer.
It's currently available in Korea, and is due to be shipped worldwide in the second half of this year.
