Sharp's latest range of Aquos LCDs offers entry-level buyers some impressive technology at increasingly affordable prices. The RD2E Series features three HD Ready models in varying large-screen sizes – 32in, 37in and 42in – and includes the latest 100Hz processing technology.
Increasing the refresh rate from 50Hz to 100Hz basically doubles the number of images displayed per second while simultaneously eliminating the pauses between images, which produces significantly brighter pictures with more fluid movement.
None of the screens can claim the same Full HD (1920x1080) resolution boasted by Sharp's flagship XD1E range but the typical 1366x768 resolution supports both commonly used 720p and 1080i high-definition formats – and they are less expensive.
All of the RD2E screens are unsurprisingly equipped with analogue and digital Freeview tuners while connections include two HDMI and two Scart terminals with a supporting cast of standard AV inputs. The glossed black design and corresponding pedestal stand appear attractively understated with a curved front panel and seamlessly integrated speaker system concealed beneath.
The Aquos RD2E Series is available now and priced around:
LT-32RD2E (£699)
LT-37RD2E (£899)
LT-42RD2E (not currently available)
